Namitha Kapoor has acted in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam films. She made her debut in the Telugu film 'Sontham'. After that she became famous in the Tamil film 'Engal Anna' opposite Vijayakanth.

Namitha is putting in some serious hard work for 1977. Having moved from glamour roles and song-sequences, Namitha wants to put in the best of her efforts for the string of lead roles that she has been offered. In 1977, Namitha's role is that of a charming lawyer. Each scene in the movie has to be delivered with pages and pages of dialogues. But Namitha is unruffled. She is memorising all the dialogues with a diligence and sincerity similar to a school girl, who is bound to give her exam. The story of 1977 revolves around the life and adventures of a detective. Lawyer Namitha is detective Sarathkumar's partner in the movie.

Vidya Sagar scores the music and Boopathy handles the camera. Jayasuda, Vivek, Vijaykumar and Radha Ravi also feature in the film besides the lead cast.
